Why learn how to lost wax cast? This ancient technique has been used for centuries and we think it should be kept alive. We’re here to share the process with you.
In this fast-moving fun & creative 2-day workshop, students will get hands-on experience carving a wax model. You will learn how to use an electric wax pen and how to carve, file, and polish wax models. Then, you will learn how to invest and cast your work into Sterling Silver or Gold Bronze. To complete your creation, you will learn how to polish your finished castings. This is a great opportunity to learn all you need to know to make jewelry using the lost wax casting process, from start to finish.
Day one, students will learn how to design and carve a wax model or modify one of our wax models, or we can print your small 3D File 2 days prior to class. All specific hand tools for wax carving are provided. Once this wax model is completed, it is treed up and then invested in a casting flask, and prepared for casting. We will then have a light lunch and creative process talk while our flasks are burning out in the kiln.
After lunch and flask burn out, all the wax models are individually cast in the centrifuge, with the instructor’s help, in your choice of Sterling Silver, or Gold Bronze. One piece of jewelry is included in the process.
Sunday will be polishing and finishing pieces. The newly cast models are cleaned, finished, polished and patina-ed if you desire.
Students will leave the workshop with their own metal piece. You will have a choice of Sterling Silver or Gold Bronze. 1 wax blank is provided. All hand tools, casting, and mold making equipment is available in the studio for use by the participants. You are welcome to bring your own metals or stones if you like as well.
Please bring a Refillable water bottle, lunch and a light snack. Dress in layers there are many different temperatures in the studios.
